Mombasa registers lowest turnout of KDF recruits

Kenya Defence Forces officials in charge of recruiting military personnel in the Coastal region have expressed their disappointment following the low turnout in the region.

According to Lt. David Cheruiyot, Mombasa County recorded the lowest number of recruits with very few of them being female.

“The recruitment guidelines require us to only recruit residents from this region who meet the threshold but most of the people that sought to be enlisted today are non-locals,” said Lt. Cheruiyot.

Cheruiyot noted that the Coastal region has recorded the lowest number of recruits when compared to other regions in the country.

“We started in Kisauni then proceeded to Nyali, Changamwe, Jomvu, Mikindani and Mombasa town where the process went on well, but the low numbers are constant in all the sub-counties.”

One of the recruit hopefuls from Majengo who showed up for the exercise, KhamisJuma Ahmed, urged his colleagues to take such recruitment seriously saying the prevalence of drug abuse and lack of guidance is to blame for the low turnout.
