Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, Thika Road to be closed Tuesday

The police have released the traffic plans ahead of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s inauguration slated for Tuesday, November 28.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, November 25, Nairobi Police Commander Japheth Koome said that a number of roads will be closed next week as a security measure due to the high number of diplomats expected to grace the event.

The county commander said that he had requested for reinforcements from Vigilance House because of Tuesday’s event saying that Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway and Thika Road will be marked as “red zones”.

He confirmed that motorists will be unable to access the three roads.

“Because of security protocol the aforementioned roads will be marked as red zones. A red zone means an area with heavy deployment of police officers,” said Koome.

He also advised motorists to avoid Ngong Road, Langata Road and Valley Road which would be affected by the Standard Chartered Marathon on Sunday, November 26

“Security will also be beefed up for the following events including the Standard Chartered marathon which will be held tomorrow and the UN environmental summit which will be held between 4-6 December,” Koome said.
