Mombasa: Transport paralyzed after train carrying petrol derails
A train which was ferrying petroleum from the port of Mombasa derailed at Kibarani causing a traffic nightmare.
The incident that occurred at around 4.30.am caused a major traffic snarl up near Uganda Property Holdings.
The busy Nairobi-Mombasa highway which leads to Mombasa CBD was brought to a standstill.
One of the train’s wagons reportedly spilled all of its contents onto the railway line.
Kibarani area has now been completely sealed off with no vehicles allowed through the port unless with an official pass.
Motorists have been advised to use the Mauveni-Kaloleni until Kibarani area is cleared or access through the port is allowed.
Police are also at the scene.
