Monitor social media to avert chaos – Governor to CAK, security agencies

Samburu Governor, Moses Lenolkulal, has urged his opponents and their supporters to desist from posting malicious information against their opponents on social media.

Speaking in Nomotio in Samburu Central County, he noted sharing of false information on social sites is likely to incite Kenyans ahead of the August 8 General Election.

Lenolkulal urged security organs and the Communication Authority of Kenya to closely monitor and reign in on people who use social media for the wrong purpose.

“This being the election season, some aspirants may opt to disrupt peace by hurling insults at their political opponents something which is likely to inflame passions and pit supporters of different political camps against each other,” Lenolkulal said.

He said that in the past a large number of politicians have benefited from tarnishing the reputation of their opponents and the emergence of social media has made this even easier.

Lenolkulal seized the moment to assure Samburu residents that the County Government is working round the clock to ensure the subsidized flour by the National Government reaches Maralal Town and is distributed equitably across the County.

“We hope to engage the Principal Secretary Ministry of Agriculture Livestock and Fisheries to sort out the logistics of how the flour will get here,” he said.

Lenolkulal challenged the business community in Maralal Town to take the opportunity and distribute he flour to all wards in the county and in the process benefit from it.
