More heavy rains expected from Monday

The Kenya Meteorological Service has warned that heavy rainfall are expected in many parts of the country from Monday, 12 for a week.

The Met department however says that the rains will not be as heavy as the one experienced in the recent wet spell.

“Heavy rainfall of more than 40mm in 24 hours is expected from Tuesday March 13, 2018 over Western, South, Central Rift Valley and Central Kenya including Nairobi,” reads the statement.

The weatherman has also issued a flood warning in urban areas asking people not to walk or drive in moving water.

Counties that will be affected include; Kisii, Kericho, Bomet, Narok, Migori, Kakamega, Kajiado, Nakuru, Kwale, Marsabit, Wajir, Isiolo, Turkana, Samburu, Nairobi, Nyeri, Kiambu, Murang’a, Kitui, Machakos, Makueni, Kilifi, Mombasa, Lamu and Taita Taveta.

The country has been experiencing heavy rains and floods for two weeks since Wednesday, February 28 that have killed more than 10 people.

The meteorological department had predicted the rains would only be a three-day affair but the heavy downpour has persisted. They also announced that after the rains, there would be a dry spell starting March7.
