Mother abandons four-month old baby at Vihiga hospital

A woman on Monday abandoned her four months old baby at a hospital in Vihiga County where she had taken the child for immunisation.

According to one of the hospital attendants, they were alerted by cries of a baby emanating from behind the hospital, and after going to check what was happening they found the baby placed on the ground.

Vihiga OCPD Justin Nyagah confirmed the incident saying a hunt was underway for the mother.

According to the OCPD, the child was taken to the Vihiga County Referral Hospital as authorities wait to see whether the parents will emerge, failure to which they will transfer the baby to a children’s home.

Vihiga County Assembly Health Committee chair Elisha Amara urged the county government to ensure installation of CCTV cameras in hospitals to avoid such incidents.
