Mother accused of scalding daughter with boiling water

A woman in Nairobi is accused of brutally assaulting her 12-year-old daughter by pouring boiling water on her and shaving parts of her head with a kitchen knife.

The girl now bears severe wounds that have kept her out of school.

But what would driver her to that extent?

“I was outside at night. I got home late and my mother started to beat me up. She boiled water and poured it on me. She took a knife and cut my hair,” she said.

According to the minor, she escaped from the house and showed the wounds to one of the neighbours after which her father and other relatives were called to pick her up and take her for medical attention.

“I was called and went to the hospital,” said her father.

The incident was first reported at the Tena AP Post the same night, Saturday February 23, 2019 then at the Buruburu police station on Sunday February 24, 2019.

The mother was arrested but was released on a cash bail of Ksh.10,000.

There was no P3 Form to give solid grounds for arrest and the minor was also not able to officially record her statement then. Only other witness statements were recorded.

On Tuesday, Citizen TV crew caught up with the father and daughter at Buruburu police station where they had gone record their statements.

They were however not able to record a statement and left after being told that they could not record since the officer handling the case had gone to attend a funeral.

After the TV crew spoke to the Deputy OCS who was in charge of the station at the time, they were called back to record their statements.

The minor is at the moment staying with her father.

According to neighbours, it is not the first time she has been allegedly assaulted by her mother.

The father, who has known the suspect for close to 13 years, also said that she has assaulted him on occasion, showing us multiple scars and they are currently separated with no formal custody arrangements.

Further reports indicate that her family is said to have wanted to settle the assault as a family matter, out of court.

The mother will take plea on Friday March 1, 2019.
