Mother, son bodies found in pit latrine

A 68-year-old woman and her son, 40, who had been reported missing for the past four days have been found dead under unclear circumstances at Gacatha Village in Kirinyaga County.

Confirming the incident, Mirichi Senior Assistant Chief Margaret Wambui Muchira said the two, whose bodies were found in a pit latrine, were last seen in a bar at Kianjiru shopping centre.

According to residents, one person saw the bodies floating in the latrine and raised alarm to the neighbours.

The bodies were later moved to Embu mortuary as police launched investigations into the matter.

This comes a few weeks after a local businessman, Peter Gitu, 43, was found murdered near his house at Sagana trading centre in Ndia Constituency, Kirinyaga County.

Confirming the incident, Mwea-West OCPD Samuel Seurey said the businessman was last spotted in a local bar today at 2am.

It is alleged that the murderer first entered his house and tied his wife before ordering the children to lie down and later killing the deceased as he parked his vehicle.

Residents are now urging police to increase patrols in the area, noting that this was the third such incident to occur in recent times.
