Motorists Celebrate Suspension Of Mobile Courts
In Kisumu, motorists claimed that the mobile traffic courts operating on the roads had been turned into extortion avenues
They claimed the mobile courts had strained them financially and that the move made by Chief Justice was highly welcome
A number of motorists say the courts were used inappropriately as officers involved were only milking hefty amounts of money from them
They now want the Chief Justice to ensure the ban is effective immediately.
The motorists are also demanding the removal or transfer of corrupt officers who have been operating in the area
This comes even as the Matatu Owners Association in partnership with the Kenya Police, insurance sector and motor vehicle assemblers have organized a free passengers service vehicles clinic
The exercise is being conducted in various parts of the country.
This is to facilitate a sense of self regulation and to encourage matatu owners to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy.
