Motorists, passengers stranded in Mombasa after heavy downpour

Heavy downpour experienced on Wednesday night in most parts of Mombasa town has left motorists and residents stranded as they struggle to navigate through flooded roads.

The raging waters have rendered most roads impassable.

“This is the path we use when heading to our different work places. Over the years, every time  it rains, we are forced to walk through the water. It seems our county officials don’t care because up to now the drainage system hasn’t been fixed,” said one of the residents.

The Met. department on Tuesday issued an advisory report warning of heavy downpour from Wednesday to Friday along Kwale, Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River and Lamu.

Residents were advised to avoid driving or walking through fast moving waters and fishermen were cautioned to be on high alert due to the strong winds offshore which may result in storm surge.
