MP accuses anti-graft body of ‘fixing’ him

Kiminini Member of Parliament Chris Wamalwa now claims that the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) wants to fix him in a framed corruption case.

Wamalwa has told parliament that EACC detectives have started probing him on the use of funds in his CDF kitty just after he moved amendments to the EACC Amendment Bill to send home the commission’s secretariat.

MPs have condemned the allegations against EACC with most of them supporting the reconstitution of the EACC commission.

The fate of EACC chief executive Halakhe Waqo and his deputy Michael Mubea now lies with President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has not yet assented to the EACC Amendment Bill.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Amendment Bill 2015 was passed by Parliament approving the removal of the EACC secretariat.

About two weeks ago, President Uhuru Kenyatta was hearing vocal opposition to the passing of the Bill from legal organizations.

Those leading the charge included Law Society of Kenya, Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), Law Society of Kenya, National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) and Transparency International (TI).

Led by the executive director of Transparency International (TI) Samuel Kimeu, the organizations voiced their criticism of the Bill saying that it was not in good taste and against the constitution.

On the other hand, President Kenyatta is also facing criticism from the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) principal Raila Odinga who claims that the National Assembly has not been representing the people who elected them.

Reports indicate that President Kenyatta would be unlikely to assent to the Bill as it would render the EACC ‘useless’.

Many of the Members of Parliament that voted to sack the bosses from the EACC were also named in the ‘List of Shame’.
