MP Aisha Jumwa leads rebellion against Raila

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa has baffled both friends and foe after her latest outburst against ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Previously a staunch supporter of Odinga, Jumwa now seems to have turned her back against him and is now backing his political nemesis – Deputy President William Ruto.

A section of leaders in Kilifi however say the abrasive MP is pursuing a personal agenda.

On July 9, 2017, Aisha rallied support for the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and secured a win for Odinga in Kilifi during the general election.

Fast forward to October 2018, the tables have turned in what a section of her counterparts term as betrayal.

The Malindi lawmaker publicly declared her support for Ruto’s presidential ambition in 2022.

Last weekend, Aisha launched a scathing attack on her party leader Raila Odinga.

“They told us we are going to Canaan and we followed. Later they said that the Jordan was crocodile infested yet it is a sacred river,”said Aisha.

She added: “I am really praying to God for Ruto come 20122.”

Jumwa’s criticism of Odinga has prompted Orange House to summon her alongside her Mswambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori.

They are to appear before the ODM disciplinary committee on October 10 despite having dismissed the summons, setting the stage for a major clash.

“ On that day, If I will be free, I will opt to go on holiday,” Aisha hinted to which Suna East MP Junet Mohammed responded saying:

“ If you will not attend the summons another step will follow.” If she fails to appear before the disciplinary committee, Aisha risks suspension or expulsion from the ODM party.

That could lead to the loss of her parliamentary seat, denial of ODM’s tickets for elective posts as well as denial of any elective post in the party.

The Malindi lawmaker is ODM’s representative at the Parliamentary Service Commission.

She was handed the position after Coast MPs lobbied Odinga to drop Homa Bay Woman Reprsentative Gladys Wanga in her favour.

During last year’s general election, ODM secured all elective seats in Kilifi County.

Now, members of the Kilifi County assembly have picked a fight with the rebel MPs.

Odinga has however remains tight lipped on the fallout.
