MP locked in office for 24 hours

Laikipia North Member of Parliament Mathew Lempurkel was on Saturday evening released after being held hostage for more than 24 hours by a non-governmental organisation (NGO) after he stormed its premises.

Lempurkel was locked by Ndugu Zanguni NGO workers after he raided the facility that houses children with heart problems, claiming it had been grabbed.

Lempurkel is alleged to have taken equipment belonging to the organisation and locked their offices before the workers pounced on him and locked him up together with his bodyguards.

The NGO accused the legislator of embezzling funds meant for the organisation and swore not to allow him in their premises again as police officers from Oldonyiro Police Station stood guard outside the room they were locked in.

The MP, however, claimed that some individuals were plotting to grab the property illegally and that he was being targeted.
