MP Mathew Lempurkel protests decision to charge him with murder

The state wants to charge Laikipia North Member of Parliament, Mathew Lempurkel, with the murder of British rancher, Tristan Voospuy, and inciting local residents to invade private ranches in Laikipia.

However, Lempurkel’s lawyer, James Orengo, has protested the move and he has urged the court to reject the charges.

The ODM Member of Parliament has, however, been released on a bond of Ksh 200,000 after the court rejected an application by prosecution to detain him for 14 days to conclude investigations on the matter.

Nanyuki Senior Magistrate, Waititu Gichimu, is expected to give a ruling on the application by the State to charge the MP with murder on March 30, 2017 when the case will be mentioned.
