MP Mbarire rejects nomination results terming process unfair

Runyenjes Member of Parliament, Cecily Mbarire, has rejected the Jubilee Party nomination results in Embu County gubernatorial race, saying that the exercise was marred by malpractices.

Incumbent Governor, Martin Wambora, was declared winner by the County Returning Officer, Kenneth Kimencu, after garnering 60,634 votes against her only opponent, Mbarire, who got 43,509 votes.

She has since refuted the outcome saying the exercise was not free and fair as voting in her strongholds polling stations started late, therefore, supporters were not able to cast their vote.

“A total of 14 polling stations in my strongholds did not conduct the voting process as many got election materials late in the day when potential voters had left,” said the lawmaker.

Mbarire, who speaking after recording a statement on the suspected electoral malpractices at Embu Police Station, termed the whole nomination process in Embu a sham, demanding for nullification of the results that saw her trail Wambora by over 17,000 votes.

On his part, Governor Wambora expressed his confidence in his victory insisting the exercise was very free, fair and credible.

“My rival is finding it difficult to accept defeat. She must accept defeat as the electoral process was smooth and transparent,” said the governor, who will now face Maendeleo Chap Chap’s Lenny Kivuti in a bid to defend his seat on August 8.
