MP Millie Odhiambos PA charged over abusive Facebook post

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo’s personal assistant was on Wednesday arraigned in a Nairobi court on allegations of insulting a Member of Parliament.

Derrick Ochieng Ogayo, 25, was presented before Nairobi Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi and charged for insulting  Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo on her Facebook account.

It is alleged that on diverse dates between February 1 and March 10, 2018 Mr. Ogayo called Ms. Gogo a thief adding that she does not deserve to be a legislator.

“…You jointly with others not in court broadcasted or caused to be public to Gogo’s Facebook account words which read ‘you are a thief and not worthy being a member of Parliament for Rangwe’ with intent to insult, cause fear and alarm to the people of Rangwe and the general public,” read the charge sheet.

Ogayo, however, denied the charges and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.50,000 or Ksh.200,000 bond.

“Your honor the allegations before you are only meant to frustrate me,” said Ogayo.

The case will be mentioned in two weeks time.
