After apology, MP now wants Uhuru to compensate 2017 election violence victims

Uriri Member of Parliament Mark Nyamitta has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to complement his apology to Kenyans during his State of the Nation address with a compensation for victims of the 2017 post poll violence.

Speaking in Nyasorori Primary School where he presided over the issuance of bursary funds, Nyamitta noted that he was proud of the commitment showed by Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga in uniting Kenyans.

He, however, added that such unity would only be fully realised if the families that lost their loved ones and property as well as those that developed disability because of 2017 politics are compensated.

“We want to thank President Uhuru Kenyatta for coming out to apologise to Kenyans for all the bad that was witnessed. But here in Migori people died. Now that he has decided to come out to seek forgiveness, we welcome his remorse but now we want action,” said Nyamitta.

“We want those who lost their loved ones to be paid… Those who lost their property must also be paid.”

The legislator added that, as NASA, they were fully behind Raila Odinga’s decision to shake hands with the President for the betterment of the country.

He, however, expressed disappointment in a section of Jubilee legislators claiming that they are working against the pact between the Commander-in-Chief and the former Premier.
