MP Peter Kaluma wants ODM Elections Board overhauled

Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has maintained that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) National Elections Board must be overhauled if credible party primaries are to be realized ahead of 2017 General Elections.

The MP claims that the current commissioners of the elections board were doing more harm than good to the party, something he says would compromise the Coalition for Reforms and democracy (CORD) leader Raila Odinga’s presidential ambition in the next General Elections if appropriate changes are not made early enough.

He cited for instance the recent ODM grassroots elections which he says were done in a “very shambolic manner” in most parts of Nyanza and more specifically in Homa Bay County.

Kaluma has on the other hand pleaded with political leaders from Luo Nyanza to end the long-standing political rivalries over elective positions and come together to find ways through which the former Prime Minister can win the top seat of this country come 2017 General Elections.

The lawmaker says that this is not the time to start fighting over who should be Governors, Senators, MPs or MCAs, adding that they need to consolidate their resources to ensure Mr. Odinga wins the presidential elections.

He expressed optimism that with the massive corruption and tribalism witnessed in the Jubilee government will be a walkover for CORD since it has the technical experience on how to handle such issues.

Mr. Kaluma, who was speaking in Rarieda Constituency, urged those who have attained the age of 18 years to ensure they acquire ID cards and register as voters to be eligible to participate in the next General Elections.
