MP petitions EACC over issuance of title deeds

Mbeere South Member of Parliament, Mutava Musyimi, has petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate the demarcation and allotment of the controversial Mwea Settlement Scheme in Embu County.

Mutava claimed that there are a lot of loopholes surrounding the allotment to an extent that majority of the beneficiaries of the land are not residents and have not been living in the scheme.

The MP further claimed that the basic procedures that were to be followed in the allotment of the scheme such as public participation were not followed and thereby leading to unfair demarcation of the land.

The Mbeere MP pointed out that only 6% of the titles from the scheme were issued to the people living in the scheme which he said is a very small number since it only constitutes 441 households from Mbeere while the larger population was issued to people living in the upper part of Embu.

Mutava said that there is need to investigate the issuance of the title deeds terming the process as illegal.

He said that only a few of the residents living in the scheme benefited but received very small portions of land.

Mutava, who was speaking in Karaba, Mwea during a public baraza, accused the national and county government of Embu of being behind the unfair issuance of title deeds to non-residents.

The legislator has since urged residents to maintain peace as the matter is being sorted out.
