MP remanded for inciting students

A Kisumu Court has remanded Nyando Member of Parliament, Fred Outa, has been remanded for allegedly inciting students of Ahero Girls High School to protest the interdiction of their principal.

Outa, who was arrested on Tuesday, October 11, was arraigned for allegedly inciting the students to demand for the return of the school headteacher, Sarah Adipo, who was interdicted by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).

Prosecution lawyer urged the court to deny Outa bail saying he should be detained for three days to allow investigating officers to carry out proper probe into the matter.

But the defence team led by Senior Counsel Dickson Enock Anyul, pleaded with the court to disregard the prosecution’s plea saying the matter should be addressed urgently to give the MP time to continue with his legislative chores.

The students were sent home on Monday, October 10 following the chaos that rocked the school.

According to Nyando Sub County Deputy Commissioner, Kennedy Lunalo, the decision was reached by the school board as a move to quell the growing tension.

However, some of the board members differed with the move to send students away with one of the members, Innocent Masara, urging Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i, to intervene and ensure amicable resolution of the situation.
