MP wants CS to compensate cut trees owners

Kuresoi South Member of Parliament, Zakayo Cheruiyot, wants Energy Cabinet Secretary, Charles Keter, to compensate people whose trees were cut during the last mile power connectivity programme in his constituency.

Speaking in Kuresoi less than a fortnight after the CS launched the programme in the area, the legislator said that it was unfair for the government to cut down trees belonging to individuals to pave way for electricity and fail to compensate them.

Keter launched the Last Mile Connectivity Project in the area following a directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta to light up Ndabibi village in honour of Rio Olympics gold medalist Faith Chepngetich.

Cheruiyot further challenged Keter to ensure equitable distribution of power in the country saying that all Kenyans are tax payers and are not seeking favours from the government.
