MP wants government to re-introduce corporal punishment in schools

Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has called for the re-introduction of corporal punishment in schools saying it will bring back sanity to the learning institutions.

Kega associated the recent spate of unrest in schools, especially secondary schools, to what he termed as high levels of indiscipline that has been orchestrated by the soft nature of the teachers and the Ministry of Education.

He said that excuses of poor feeding programme, harassment by teachers are decoy by the undisciplined students to enable them wreck havoc.

Kanini said that the government must start treating errant students like criminals in an ordinary setup.

He said that the softness in dealing with those students who break law has led to increased cases of burning of dormitories and other school property.

He, however, also said that parents have failed to shape the behaviors of their children saying that has made most of them to behave badly when in school.
