MP wants Speaker Muturi, Duale, Mbadi impeached over Finance Bill

A section of Members of Parliament now want a total overhaul of the National Assembly leadership over the chaotic scenes witnessed on Thursday during the special sitting on the Finance Bill, 2018.

Led by Mwingi West MP Charles Nguna, the legislators who lost the vote to reject the presidential memorandum on 8% fuel tax are seeking the removal of Speaker Justin Muturi, Majority Leader Aden Duale and Minority Leader John Mbadi.

Mr. Nguna accuses the three leaders of colluding with the Executive during the special sitting of the House on Thursday to deny MPs the requisite numbers needed to trash President Kenyatta’s memorandum of the Finance Bill, 2018.

Only 215 MPs remained in the chambers after a controversial vote undertaken by Narok Woman Representative Soipan Tuya.

This fell short of 18 members that the lawmakers now say the House leadership withdrew from the chambers to deny the House a two thirds majority of 233 members that would have shot down Kenyatta’s tax proposals.

MPs will resume normal sittings in two weeks.

The tax measures took effect on Friday after the president signed the Finance Bill 2018 into law..
