MPs attacked taking Kabogo’s critic home

Drama unfolded outside the Kiambu County Headquarters Wednesday evening after rowdy youth started stoning cars belonging to area Members of Parliament who were on their way to Ndumberi to take blogger Anthony Njoroge Mburu alias Waime Mburu home after he was charged by a Mombasa Court for using his social media accounts to falsely accuse Kiambu Governor William Kabogo of buying a 1,000 acre piece of land in Kwale County.

Mburu was arrested on January 8th and had been in custody at Shimo La Tewa Prisons.

Through his social media post, he alleged that Governor Kabogo had bought a 1,000 acre parcel of land in Kwale.

The blogger further posted that the Governor had established a Sea Cross Farm at the said land as a cover-up to import cheap and low-quality eggs into the country.

The blogger was released on bond as the prosecution continues with investigations on the matter.

The legislators from Kiambu including Ferdinand Waititu, Alice Nganga, Kimani Ichung’wa, Paul Koinange and Jude Njomo attended the court proceedings in Mombasa in support of the blogger.

The leaders accused the Governor of using youth to silence criticism and young politicians aspiring to contest for political seats in the county.

Vehicles belonging to Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichungwa and Kiambu’s Jude Njomo were damaged by the rowdy youth with the MPs accusing Governor Kabogo of hiring goons to disrupt any activities by his critics.

Blogger Waime was warmly received by the residents who called upon him to continue with the fight agaist bad leadership in the county.

Mburu’s case is among many such trials facing bloggers. Early this week, former NTV reporter – now blogger – Yassin Juma was arrested for allegedly misusing licenced telecommunication channels to post unsolicited content.

Juma had allegedly posted photos of KDF trucks set on fire by Al Shabaab militants after attacking their El Adde camp killing several of them.

However, his case failed to kick off with police citing defective charge sheet.
