MPs defend Waiguru over NYS scam

A section of Jubilee MPs from Nyeri County have accused opposition CORD leader Raila Odinga of waging a personal war against Devolution Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru.

Gichugu MP Njogu Barua, his Ndaragwa counterpart Francis Waweru and Kipipiri’s Samuel Gichigi faulted Odinga for demanding Waiguru’s resignation over theft of 791 million shillings from the National Youth Service (NYS).

The three MPs claim the embattled CS is a victim of perceived success at the devolution ministry, even as Odinga accused the president of shielding her from responsibility.

Waiguru on Friday released a probe report from CID confirming the theft of 791 million shillings from NYS and a conspiracy to defraud the service of more than 600 million.

NYS Deputy Director General Adan Harakhe and 20 other officers will face theft charges.
