MPs direct IG Boinnet to arrest NYS scam suspect Kabura

The National Assembly Public Accounts Committee has written to the Inspector General of Police asking him to arrest businesswoman Josephine Kabura after she snubbed the committee for the third time over the Ksh.791 million NYS scandal.

According to PAC Chair Nicholas Gumbo, the committee wants Police Boss Joseph Boinnet to arrest and produce Kabura before the watchdog committee before the end of the week.

“The law is very clear in Article 125 on power to call for evidence. We have the same powers as that of a high court… we need Kabura here within a week,” said Kieni MP Kanini Kega.

Gumbo said the committee cannot conclude investigations into the scandals at NYS until Kabura is grilled because she is a key witness in the scandal.

“Ksh.791 million went into her account and these letters sent to us are really an insult to this committee,” Balambala MP Abdikadir Aden remarked.

“That lady must be arrested wherever she is in this country today and brought before this committee tomorrow,” he added.

Committee members also rejected a letter by Kabura’s lawyer to allow her to appear before PAC on the 11th of November.

The businesswoman is alleged to be a key suspect in the National Youth Service Ksh.1.8 billion scam.

Kabura was expected to appear before the committee on Tuesday to shed light on how her three companies ended up as the beneficiaries of over Ksh.700 million from NYS.
