MPs Kamukunji Agrees To Summon Governors

The position was reached during a joint Speaker’s Kamukunji that included Speakers and MPs from both houses.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Bilow Kerrow says the committee will issue fresh summons to the 9 Governors who failed to appear for grilling over expenditure in their counties.

Kerrow however failed to divulge details of the informal agreement that the two houses had reached including whether parliament would go on with a planned slashing of county allocations of revenue.

The Senator did not divulge any detail regarding their planned stripping of ‘His Excellency’ title, the usage of the national flag by governors.

Kerrow said that the suggestion to reduce county allocations would be addressed by the relevant parliamentary committees.

The Kamukunji comes amidst heated disagreements between Governors and MPs as well the differences between the Legislature and Judiciary.

The legislature has on several occasions defied court orders insisting that Judiciary should respect separation of powers.

Trouble between the two started when the Senate went ahead to impeach Embu Governor Martin Wambora despite an order by court stopping the impeachment.
