MPs throw out Hustlers Jet Report

Members of Parliament have rejected the controversial “Hustler’s Jet Report” prepared by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the hiring of a private jet used by Deputy President William Ruto in a five-day shuttle diplomacy over the International Criminal Court in 2013.

Majority of MP’s present at the floor of the house voted against the report, which had recommended that four senior officers in the deputy president’s office, including suspended Chief of Staff Marianne Kitany, be investigated for flouting procurement rules when hiring the jet which cost tax payers Sh100 million.

Members of the opposition were, however, up in arms protesting the move while accusing some members of conspiring with the Executive to frustrate and curtail the role played by Parliament of oversight.

The committee, however, exonerated the DP of any wrong doing in the lease of the luxury Jet, stating that they found no evidence to prove the DP was culpable.

In 2013, the office of the Deputy President William Ruto paid Sh25 million to Vista Jet to provide luxury jet services to the DP and an entourage of 15 officials that toured five African countries in an effort to get backing on the cases facing him and President Kenyatta in the ICC.
