MPs Vet 6 Other Ambassadorial Nominees
Vetting of President Uhuru Kenyatta's nominees to various ambassadorial positions entered day two today with six more nominees facing the MPs' panel
Those who appeared before the Departmental Committee on Foreign Relations today were Mohmoud Abdi, Richard Opembe, Lucy Chelimo, George Masafu, …….., ……..
Several nominees found themselves in trouble over their educational qualifications
Members of the committee took Richard Opembe and Mohmoud Abdi to task over their qualifications.
Opembe who has been nominated to serve as ambassador to Dublin, Ireland admitted he does not have a degree
Opembe told the committee that he only has a diploma
Abdi who has been nominated to serve as ambassador to Saudi Arabia was also taken to task over his degree which he he acquired at Kampala University, Uganda
Members of the committee felt that the academic qualifications of the two were not adequate but said the committee would later decide on the issue
Opembe however defended himself saying his lack of a university degree won’t affect his performance.
Mohmoud on the other hand promised to address the issue of Kenyans being harassed by their employers in Saudi Arabia if MPs approve his appointment.
The vetting is expected to conclude in the next 11 days
