MPs want Kuria arrested over hate speech

A section of CORD MPs have now demanded for the arrest of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over his comments urging youth to slash with pangas politicians opposed to the National Youth Service (NYS) projects.

The CORD MPs led by Nominated MP Oburu Odinga, Ugunja’s Opiyo Wandayi, Homa Bay Women Representative Gladys Wanga, Mombasa Women Representative Mishi Mboko among others have condemned the utterances by Kuria saying police should arrest him and charge him in court.

Addressing the press in Parliament, the CORD MPs claimed that NYS is being funded by the Jubilee government for political reasons.

Earlier Wednesday, The National Alliance (TNA) party chairman Johnson Sakaja termed Kuria’s alleged inciting statements as embarrassing and want action taken against him.

Speaking on behalf of TNA party, Sakaja said that they fully dissociate themselves from Kuria’s statement.

The Gatundu South legislator (Moses Kuria), who is a member of TNA, is on the spotlight after a video emerged of him allegedly asking the youth to slash to death all those who oppose Nation Youth Service (NYS) programme.

However, Francis ole Kaparo, the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) chairperson has said the commission will take action against the legislator who was once made to apologise over hate speech remarks attributing terrorism to certain communities.

NCIC later said Kuria had not exhibited ‘a conciliatory demeanour in his social media accounts’ after the apology.

Though Kuria’s remarks border on incitement to violence and ethnic hatred, he sees nothing wrong with them……

“I have no regret whatsoever, I have a right to lead my people the nest way I know how to.”

Kuria had early in the year been arraigned in court for making ethnic slurs on social media, and secured a sh. 2m cash bail but on condition that he ceases posting hate messages on Facebook.

The National Cohesion and Integration Commission however sought to have the bail terms cancelled after Kuria breached the conditions.

Kuria’s remarks are also in contravention to Chapter 6 of the constitution on leadership and integrity that requires all public and state officers to always uphold the dignity of the offices they hold.
