MPs warn Joho against insulting President

Members of Parliament representing different counties have asked Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho, to desist from hauling insults at President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Thika MP Alice N’gan’ga, Jude Njomo (Kiambu Town), Kigo Njenga (Gatundu North), Mutava Musyimi (Siakago) and Richard Ton’go have demanded that Joho and other opposition leaders respect President Kenyatta, as he was rightfully elected by Kenyans, therefore, the title commands respect.

However, Ms Ng’ang’a advised the Mombasa Governor to instead clear his name from the list of wanted drug cartels than portraying bad leadership morals in public attacking Kenyatta.

She further urged Joho to focus on providing an audit report of the alleged misused funds allocated in the county by the national government since he took office.

On the other hand, Njomo described the governor’s actions as childish, claiming that the offensive utterances were triggered by Jubilee’s success in delivering services to the coastal region, which has mostly been perceived as National Super Alliance (NASA) stronghold ahead of 2017 General Election.

This is the second time President Kenyatta and Joho have clashed publicly since the past event in January this year, where the two conflicted during the commissioning of three projects by the President at the Coast, that had the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) member claim that the projects were initiated by former President Mwai Kibaki and were fully funded by donors including the World Bank.

The three projects that cost Ksh 3.2 billion were Buxton Footbridge in Mvita Constituency in  Mombasa Island, Mombasa drainage storm water project in Bamburi Sub County and Ziwa la Ng’ombe informal infrastructural improvement  in Nyali Constituency.
