Mudavadi denies claims that DP Ruto bagged him and Wetangula

Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has rubbished claims that he and Bungoma Senator Moses Wetang’ula forged a deal with DP William Ruto for the 2022 State House race.

Taking to Twitter, Mudavadi said there are people pushing the narrative and according to him it is a distortion of reality.

The ANC party through its Secretary General Barrack Muluka later released a statement saying: “For avoidance of doubt, no such matter was discussed at all. It is also true that there were no reporters from the Nation, or elsewhere, at the event. The source of this misleading story is, therefore, the rumour mill.

“Regarding 2022, we will cross that bridge in good time. For now, we are aware that the Deputy President aspires to ascend to the presidency as do Wetangula and Mudavadi. They are all potential competitors for the same prize,” Muluka added.

He was responding to a story published on the front page of the Saturday Nation titled ‘Ruto bags Mudavadi, Wetang’ula’.

The local daily reported that Mudavadi and Wetang’ula had announced plans to join hands with the Deputy President.

Further, it was alleged that a team put has been tasked to formulate an agreement on who Dr. Ruto’s running mate will be.

According to the Nation report that quoted Mumias East MP Ben Washiali, an official announcement on the new coalition will be made before the year ends.

Apparently the committee formed to fine-tune the deal consists of Washiali; Sakwa Bunyasi (Nambale MP); Alfred Agoi (Sabatia MP); Janet Nangabo (Trans Nzoia MP); Chris Wamalwa (Kiminini) and Ferdinand Wanyonyi (Kwanza MP).

On Friday, the Deputy President held a meeting with a section of Western Kenya leaders including Didmus Barasa (Kimilili MP), Beatrice Adagala (Vihiga Woman Rep) and Justus Murunga (Matungu MP).

Hours later, Adagala and Murunga were part of another meeting at Mudavadi’s residence.

“We assembled here as leaders from Western Kenya. We will particularly focus on the unfolding character of governance & of the political economy in country – & its implications for everybody,” the ANC leader said during a Press briefing.

The latest development comes in the wake of leadership wrangles within the Ford Kenya party.

The Registrar of Political Parties recently refuted claims of withdrawing a Gazette notice on the intention to change the party officials.

This negated a statement from Law Society of Kenya President Nelson Havi (lawyer for Wetangula) that the RPP recalled a gazette notice which published Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi as the new party leader.

On May 31, 2020, the  party’s National Executive Council resolved to dismiss Wetangula as party leader on the grounds of gross misconduct.

His ouster and replacement was then published in a Gazette Notice No. 3893 dated June 8.
