Mudavadi: Kenyas biggest problem is not the BBI

ANC party leader Musalia Mudavadi has said that the greatest challenge facing Kenya is the economy, and not the the newly unveiled BBI report.

Mudavadi said the current problems in Kenya would be solved by a great economy for all and not just a few individuals.

“No one should think that the BBI is the ‘silver bullet’ that will solve all our problems as a country. Our greatest challenge is still the economy,” he said, reiterating that he would be vying for the presidency in 2022.

He pegged the current economy woes on the Government’s penchant for taking loans which have short repayment terms.

The ANC leader also noted that the greatest undoing in the implementation of the report was in politicising the report and making it about individuals.

“If the perception is that we are talking about personalities, ethnic grouping, then we are diverting attention from what may be important in the BBI,” he added.

The ANC leader also blamed the Kenyan electorate for their lack of vigilance in electing people to take up leadership positions.

In November, during the unveiling of the BBI report, Mudavadi asked President Kenyatta to fix the economy saying that was the only way Kenya would progress as a nation.

The BBI, which was born out of a political truce between President Kenyatta and ODM’s Raila Odinga, has been vouched as the solution that Kenya needs for among other things, settling leadership wrangles especially after a general election.
