Mudavadi questions new inflated Safran contract with IEBC

NASA Co-principal, Musalia Mudavadi, is now accusing the electoral commission of colluding with Jubilee to inflate the contract price of French biometric system supplier, Safran Identity and Securities.

On Thursday, September 28, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials reportedly signed a Ksh2.4 billion contract with the company for the supply of KIEMS technology for identification of voters and management of the results transmission system.

The Amani National Congress Party leader now alleges that the cost of the deal has been adjusted upwards, a plot he insists is part of the larger ploy to rig elections.

The former deputy prime minister has questioned the cost of the latest deal, while the same Safran was awarded around Ksh4 billion contract to provide the August 8 General Election technology system.

“Let us tell each other the truth. Safran Morho was paid Ksh4 billion during the August election where Kenyans were voting for 6 different seats. How then can the same company be paid Ksh2 billion for the repeat polls where Kenyans will be voting for only one elective seat? Kenyans are not fools,” said Mudavadi.

This comes even after the National Super Alliance (NASA) had called for the Frech biometric system supplier to be stopped from supplying the electoral agency with voter identification and result transmission technology in the fresh Presidential Election.

NASA claims that the company’s KIEMS kit were used in manipulating the bungled August 8 presidential results outcome and therefore cannot be trusted to run another election.
