Mudavadi tells off Uhuru over media criticism

Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has told off President Uhuru Kenyatta over his criticism of the media.

Mudavadi noted that as the CEO of the country, President Kenyatta should be ready to answer questions regarding pressing issues saying intimidation of government critics and the media is not the way to go.

Speaking after a church service at Mwira Catholic Church in Kakamega County, Mudavadi said the president should provide correct information regarding the Eurobond saga instead of saying it is not his responsibility to answer questions raised on the matter.

“Mr President, you are the CEO, accountable to Kenyans. Kenyans including the media will not stop asking you questions. Theirs is to ask questions and your role is to provide answers,” he said.

“It is bad attitude to tell government critics to shut up. Instead you should provide correct information regarding the issue at hand.”

He accused the president of issuing threats in order to scare Kenyans into silence over pressing national matters saying the solution to the Eurobond issue is for the Auditor General to provide a special forensic report.

“I can understand why we are evading the Auditor-General. It is because we don’t’ want the truth to come out,” he said.

Touching on his manifesto, Mudavadi vowed to abolish Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams in order to allow children an opportunity to mature is school.

He said thousands of children are cut-off from the education system by KCPE exams when they are not mature enough to fend for themselves.

“KCPE exams are punitive. Thousands of underage children are condemned out of the education system while they are too young to acquire any occupational skills,” he said.

“ANC will abide by the Constitution and provide free and universal primary education where pupils will proceed up to form four. Parents will not pay a cent. We will stop this cost sharing lie in education under guise of free education,” he said.

He further asked the management of Mumias Sugar Factory to stabilise its operations in order to re-establish confidence in the sector.

He asked the government not to relent in support the sugar company to ensure it returns to his pole position in the sugar industry.
