Mugo Wa Wairimu goes into hiding as residents bay for his blood

Mugo Wa Wairimu, the quack gynaecologist exposed by Citizen TV on Sunday remains at large despite the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board revealing that it had previously closed his clinics and handed him over to the police for investigations.

Angry residents of Nairobi’s Githurai 44 milled outside the Prestige Healthcare Clinic baying for his blood for masquerading as a doctor and allegedly sedating his patients before raping them.

Police had to be called in to seal off the clinic from the angry residents who vowed to camp outside the Githurai 44 clinic that remained closed.

His second clinic, located in Zimmerman area, had its sign post hurriedly defaced to change the identity from Prestige Healthcare to Mercy Mission Medicare.

Officials from the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board were on location to assess the facility.

The board says Mugo is not a doctor and has never been licensed to practice medicine.

It claims that he was arrested two months ago after he was suspected to have locked up a woman at his clinic for over a month for failing to clear a medical bill owed to his clinic.

But that incident, according to area residents, was just one in a string of cases that unmasked him as a medical quack.

It remains unclear how his clinics kept operating even after the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board ordered for their closure.

And as public anger against Mugo rose, he put out a post on facebook, saying he was safe wherever he was and would not hesitate to present himself to police should he be ordered to do so.

“I’m safe, very safe can’t answer hundreds of calls coming in per minute,” he wrote.

“I’m still well within the jurisdiction of our legal system. I’d not hesitate to present myself to the police if needed any minute, anytime.” 

The Director of Public Prosecutions has since directed the Director of Criminal Investigations to “speedily and expeditiously complete the ongoing investigations into Mugo Wa Wairimu’s conduct and submit his file for perusal and further directions.”

Police are also calling on anyone who may have fallen victim to the quack doctor’ deeds to file a statement at the nearest police station.
