Mukhtar Omar, businessman accused of repackaging expired diapers charged

A businessman accused of repackaging expired baby diapers was on Friday arraigned and charged with three counts related to offering sale of substandard expired baby diapers.

Mukhtar Rehemtulla Omar is accused that on October 11, 2018 at Imperial Industrial Park, Mlolongo area of Machakos county, with others not before court and with intent to offer for sale substandard expired baby diaper, he was found in different processes of erasing 5094 bales, the manufacturers and expiry dates on Ezee baby diapers.

The tycoon was also accused of applying import standardisation mark to branded Ezee baby diapers without a valid permit.

Mukhtar, whose advocate pleaded with the court to be released on bail/bond terms on basis of ill health appeared before principal magistrate Kennedy Cheruiyot where he denied all the allegations.

The prosecution did not however object to the suspect being released on bail/bond terms.

Magistrate Cheruiyot directed Mukhtar to pay a bond of Ksh.500,000 with alternative cash bail of Ksh.200,000.

The matter will be mentioned on November 16, 2018.
