Multi-million shilling projects in Machakos vandalised as campaigns hots up

Several multi-million shilling projects in Machakos County have been vandalised during the campaign period.

The projects, which were funded by the county government include a solar lighting project, water supply to Kangundo and CCTV cameras.

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua says the sabotage is politically motivated.

Last week, solar panels at the Kithumuoni Water Project in Kangundo were vandalised by unknown people, disrupting water supply to over 500 households. CCTV cameras in parts of Mwala Sub County have also been vandalised.

Speaking when he met members of the business community from Katangi Ward, the governor accused his political opponent Wavinya Ndeti of masterminding the sabotage plot.

“I will not allow our people to be taken back to the primitive age because some people are hungry for power,” the governor said.

“This is no longer about politics but choice between progressive, future based leadership or backward and enslaving leadership. The time has come to put our people first.”

Ndeti is vying on a Wiper ticket.

A court is due to rule this week whether she will be allowed to run, after IEBC disqualified her for belonging to both Wiper and Chama Cha Uzalendo.
