Munya accuses Meru leaders of hiring goons to heckle him
Meru Governor Peter Munya has accused a section of Meru Leaders of allegedly hiring goons to heckle him during the Jubilee Party event held at Nkubu by Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday.
Speaking at Maua Reign Chapel, Munya said he will not be intimidated by leaders fighting him for refusing to join the newly formed Jubilee Party and his fight for the success of devolution.
There was Drama in Nkubu, Meru on Saturday when County Governor Peter Munya stormed out of a meeting convened by Deputy President William Ruto.
DP Ruto, who has been on the road in recent months consolidating support for the Jubilee Party ahead of the 2017 polls, had camped at the Council of Governors Chair (COG) backyard for the launch of Youth Empowerment Sacco.
Leaders accompanying the DP ramped up support for the new party, with many throwing barbs at the Meru Governor who has severally opposed Jubilee Alliance’s move to disband constituent parties in favour of one joint party ahead of the 2017 polls.
Addressing the meeting after the remarks by the pro-Jubilee Party leaders, Munya stated that he would not bow to political pressure aimed at making join Jubilee Party in the next polls.
“I have been in politics for a while now; I am not a youngling – I am a seasoned politician. I have the right to select what party I chose to vie under in 2017. Nobody, and I repeat nobody, can force my hand. Nobody can force me run for office on a Jubilee ticket,” stated the visibly irate governor.
Addressing the Ruto directly before he walked out of the meeting, Munya said: “In 2017 I will run for office under a different party; not Jubilee. I know that there are people who have been paid to disrupt the meeting, but that is their problem. I have meetings in Maua and Bore which I am rushing to.”
Following his statement, members of the public – who were in favour of the Jubilee Party agenda –jeered the COG Chair prompting him to leave the meeting abruptly.
