Munya denies being an opposition mole, funding Railas rallies

Meru Governor, Peter Munya, has dismissed claims by Senator Kiraitu Murungi and Igembe South Member of Parliament, Mithika Linturi, that he is an opposition mole.

Munya said the two are not his spokespersons affirming that his Party of National Unity (PNU) is strongly supporting the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August polls.

Kiraitu and Linturi accused the governor on Sunday, May 7 of funding the National Super Alliance (NASA) campaigns in Meru, including providing money to local administrators to lobby and ferry crowds to attend opposition rallies.

Munya now terms the remarks as propaganda being spread by his competitor to derail his re-election campaigns in the gubernatorial race.

The PNU leader, who will be facing off against Kiraitu of Jubilee Party for the Meru county top seat come August 8, said that allegations made by his opponent are last kicks of a dying horse as he is ‘old, outdated and lacks strategies to campaign’.

“PNU was the first party to hold a National Delegates Congress to endorse President Uhuru Kenyatta. We are also going to hold another one with the President later on in the month to reaffirm our commitment to support him,” said the Chair of the Council of Governors.

Munya, who was speaking during a conservation program at Marania Forest in Buuri Sub County, also urged residents living nearby forests to take care of them as they have many benefits.

“I would like to urge the government to build a dam it proposed to people of Buuri, since they lack water-living on the rain shadow side of Mt. Kenya,” added the Governor.
