Munya, Wamatangi in heated exchange before House committee

Differences between Meru Governor, Peter Munya, and Kiambu Senator, Kimani Wamatangi, played out during Senate oversight committee sittings, with the two engaging in a bitter exchange of words.

Trouble started when Wamatangi hit out at Munya for refusing to honor Senate summons to respond to audit queries on how Meru County has spent public funds, instead belittling him at a public rally.

However, Munya has instead faulted the Kiambu Senator for using Senate Public Accounts and Investment Committee to seek answers to political statements made outside the committee.

It took committee chair, Anyang’ Nyong’o’s, intervention to calm the two parties, with Munya hard pressed to explain how 5.2 billion shillings was spent by his county in the 2013-2014 financial year.

The committee has given the Governor two days to sit down with Auditor General, Edward Ouko, and peruse availed documents to satisfactorily respond to all audit queries raised.
