Murang’a County, JKUAT Enter Health Deal

The deal signed by the University’s College of Health Sciences Principal Professor Haroun Mengech and Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria will see at least 50 students undertake their training at the hospital every intake.

The first batch of medical students to undergo training at the hospital will be recruited in September this year.

Speaking during the signing, Prof. Mengech said the partnership will enable students to get practical skills that are vital in their professional careers.

He expressed optimism that the program will be extended to Maragua and Muriranjas hospitals in the near future adding that the university has plans to ensure nursing and pharmacy students will also benefit from the program.

 

QUALITY SERVICES

On his part, Governor Wa Iria said the partnership will increase the work force at the hospital and improve delivery of services.

The Governor further noted that the hospital will also benefit from the expertise of the professors who will be supervising the students and that patients will be able to access services only available in private or referral hospitals.

Wa Iria added that through the partnership, the county government will be able to come up with a comprehensive health strategy plan that will upgrade the health sector.

Wa Iria asked the university to assist the county government in establishing an elaborate public health system and especially in researching on the jigger menace and the appropriate intervention programs.
