Muranga Governor lashes out at Senate speaker

Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria has accused deputy Senate speaker Kembi Gitura of recklessness and insincerity after the deputy speaker accused him of financial mismanagement and abuse of office.

Wa Iria also accused area Senator Kembi Gitura of sabotaging his leadership by accusing him of financial mismanagement.

Speaking at Ihuura grounds in Muranga after meeting the elderly from Muranga County, the governor vowed to use his political muscle to counter the Senate Deputy Speaker’s claims.

Wa iria also defended his track record saying the Senate cleared him of any wrong doing contrary to claims by Gitura.

In October, a motion to impeach embattled Murang’a County Governor Mwangi Wa Iria sailed through after 34 out of the 49 members of the county assembly voted for his removal.

The governor was accused of gross misconduct and abuse of office.

Those supporting the motion also accused the executive of failing to control county debts citing lack of accountability for the management and use of county resources by incurring unsustainable debt to the tune of Sh2.5B.

The house also accused the governor of spending public funds in private commercial entities, saying the auditor’s reports showed that the county spent over Sh28 million under unclear circumstances in the controversial Murang’a Investment Co-operative Society known as shilingi kwa shilingi.

However, the governor moved to court to block his impeachment.
