Muranga leaders issue stern warning to makers of counterfeit alcohol

Murang’a leaders have issued a stern warning to individuals allegedly selling counterfeit alcohol in the county and the administration officers who they accused of conspiring with them in their operations.

Speaking in a public baraza at Makuyu Market, the leaders, led by Murang’a County Commissioner John Elungata, said they would guarantee the culprits are arrested and brought to book.

The commissioner urged the residents of Murang’a to join forces with the concerned authorities by offering tip-offs on those operating what he termed as a ‘fatal business’.

Mr Elungata added that he was aware of cartels that sell their merchandise to unsuspecting bar operators in the region and as a result bringing back second generation alcohol in the region.

He affirmed that his administration would not relent in arresting the suppliers of fake brands of alcohol in the region, despite illicit brew transactions being allegedly transacted by unnamed public figures in the region.

On his part, Kiharu MP Irungu Kang’ata said he has presented a petition in parliament against fake revenue stamps which he says the makers of the fake alcohol were using to enable them distribute in the market.
