Muranga: Man charged with raping, sodomizing mother

A 32-year-old man in Murang’a county was on Monday charged with raping and sodomizing his 70-year-old mother.

The accused was charged that on July 25 at their home, he sodomized and raped his mother threatening to kill her if she disclosed the information to anyone. He denied the charges.

Chief Magistrate Margaret Wachira denied the suspect bond ruling that he be detained at Murang’a GK prison until the hearing of the case.

“Due to the nature of the offence, you will not be released on bond but will be remanded at Murang’a prison awaiting the hearing and determination of the case,” the magistrate ruled.

The suspect asked the court to have him taken to hospital claiming he was assaulted by the police while in custody.

“I want this court to order the police take me to hospital since police beat me and detained me at the police cells for four days,” he said.

The magistrate however denied the request asking the suspect to raise the matter with the prison management.

According to the family of the victim, they noticed she had problems walking and on inquiring, she revealed her horrifying ordeal at the hands of her own child saying it was not the first time he had raped her.

A family member said they took her to hospital where it was revealed she had also been infected with a Sexually Transmitted Disease.
