Muranga residents raid illicit liquor dens

Residents of Murang’a’s Kambirwa area have raided chang’aa dens in the area in what they termed as a move to compliment the government’s efforts.

The residents, however, accused police of colluding with brewers to facilitate the illicit liquor and second generation alcohol sale in the county.

They confiscated brew boilers, hundreds of litres of chang’aa, cups and other substances used in manufacturing and selling the illicit liquor.

Speaking shortly after the raid, one of the residents, Pauline Wanjiru, accused police of laxity in dealing with the illegal business saying that no action has been taken despite the fact that she personally reported the matter to them.

The residents have also accused the police and area chief of colluding with brewers of illegal liquor and frequenting the dens to solicit bribes.

The angry residents condemned the administration and police force for not taking action in curbing the thriving business despite their complaints.

Alcoholism poses threats to security in the area and compromises economic stability of the country.
