Muranga Senator wants county probed over graft

Senate Deputy Speaker Kembi Gitura has accused government agencies tasked with the duty to fight graft for laxity.

Gitura, who is also the Murang’a Senator, said graft cases are taking long to be prosecuted and most of them are not investigated conclusively.

He accused the County Government of Murang’a of planting goons to threaten those questioning Governor Mwangi Wa Iria and his government, just days after an Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) report ranked Murang’a as the most corrupt county in the country.

He added that he is keen to have the Parliamentary Accounts Investment Committee of the Senate look into the report on Tuesday, and the ranking, which he says is a big disgrace to Murang’a County.

He challenged the county government to showcase development projects that reflect the over Ksh 5 billion allocated by the National Government insisting that the county should also justify how the county has spent revenues they receive through other channels.

“I cannot be scared by such threats and I will ensure that I follow it up with the EACC to know the real parameters that were used to determine that Murang’a County is the most corrupt in the country,” said Gitura.
