Muranga County Woos Investors To Embark On Housing Project

Speaking to the press in Murang’a, Murang’a Governor Mwangi Wa Iria said the ambitious programme will target university students in Murang’a after a commercial bank granted them Ksh 1billion loan to finance the project.

50 new buildings are expected to be constructed in a bid to counter the county’s deficit of 3000 housing units.

This project will benefit mostly the students in Murang’a University College.

The shortage of lectures’ quarters and hostels for students has also been a major obstacle facing the institution.

Wa Iria however intimated that he was committed towards improving the college and promised that the county government will give a waiver on all related fees to the investors who will undertake the project.

“In the next five years we are committed to have the college elevated to a fully fledged university and admit more than 10,000 students” said the governor.

A partnership between the College and Jamii Bora Bank is also expected to attract big investors to construct standardized hostels.
