Murder claims levelled against police by NASA, KNCHR false Boinett

Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett has dismissed claims by National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders that police are responsible for killing 100 people and hiding the corpses in body bags.

The police boss, through his spokesman George Kinoti,  also dismissed claims by the Kenya National Human Rights Commission that police are behind the killing of 24 people.

“These allegations are unfounded and with no basis and are aimed at escalating tension in the country,” he said.

The police insist that only six armed criminals were shot dead by security officers in the last two days after they attacked police officers who were seeking to arrest them.

The police spokesperson said the six were killed in Nairobi’s Ruaraka, Starehe and Kariobangi estates and also in Kisumu.

“We are investigating a number of individuals suspected of incitement to violence, either directly or through social media postings, the culprits will be arrested and prosecuted in court,” IG Boinett said.

This comes in the wake of police moving to contain protests by perceived opposition supporters that erupted in different parts of the country, including Mathare and Kibra in Nairobi County and Kondele and Nyalenda in Kisumu County following the announcement of the re-election of President Uhuru Kenyatta by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on Friday August 11.
