Murkomen dismisses CS Rotichs arrest as PR stunt

Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed the arrest of Treasury CS Henry Rotich over the Arror & Kimwarer dams scandal as a “public relations” stunt.

Speaking at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi, Murkomen claimed that the arrest of CS Rotich was meant to settle “short term political interests.”

“My conclusion from what I have seen is that we are not fighting corruption. What is happening is that we are lying to Kenyans and trying to create a narrative that is meant to show that there is an ongoing war on corruption,” said Murkomen.

“…looking at the evidence on the ground and games behind the scenes, looking at the people who have been arrested, those left out, nature of arrests and excuses being given including the projects being undermined, I have come to the conclusion that we are just exercising PR stunts to lie to the people of Kenya.

He was speaking at the DCI headquarters in Nairobi where CS Rotich was arrested shortly after surrendering to the police following an arrest order by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

“When the trial begins and evidence is tabled in court, I shall be proven right in the fullness of time that this was not about fighting corruption but merely PR stunts to demonstrate that Kenya is serious; that a Minister and big people can be arraigned in court.

CS Rotich, PS Kamau Thugge and 26 other officers are set to be arraigned in court on Tuesday.
